In the run-up to Eid al-Adha, the sheep intended for sacrifice are washed in the ocean, one of the most remarkable features of preparations for the festival throughout Senegal.
Prior to Eid al-Adha, also known as Tabaski in the local language, this washing is considered one of the most important sacrificial traditions.
While inland areas the sheep are washed with buckets, in coastal towns they are taken as far as the Atlantic Ocean.
This washing, usually carried out by children or teenagers, is a colorful scene.
