The war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, and the army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, has entered its third year.
“The crisis in Sudan is currently the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world and is extremely worrying,” said David Lammy, head of British diplomacy, speaking at a forum on Africa in Marrakech, central Morocco.
“There is ambivalence, ambiguity and certainly a lack of visibility of this crisis globally, and in much of the Western world,” he lamented.
Since taking office, he has pledged to “draw attention” to the situation.
The war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced 13 million people, according to official figures.
The situation has severely degraded health infrastructures and exacerbated hunger in five areas of the country: three camps for displaced persons in Darfur and several parts of the mountainous Nuba region.
