Israel’s ambassador to Senegal, Yuval Waks, was chased away on Tuesday from Dakar’s Cheikh Anta Diop University by students reacting to the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli diplomat was due to lead a conference on the theme of “international relations practices and agreements between states”, scheduled for 17:00 GMT today.
In a video widely shared on social networks, Ambassador Waks and his entourage are seen hastily leaving the university to the chanting of slogans such as Free Gaza, Free Palestine and Israel the criminal.
“The ambassador of the State of Israel was booed at the University of Dakar by students denouncing the genocide in Gaza,” reacted Seydi Gassama, director of Amnesty International Senegal, on X, with the video as illustration.
”Informed of the presence of the Israeli ambassador, dozens of students converged on room 205 of UCAD 2 where the conference was to be held. He was not even able to open the proceedings because of the booing, which forced him to leave the room before getting into his vehicle and disappearing,” said a member of the Senegal Palestine coalition.
