Ecuador: Daniel Noboa sworn in as new president

Daniel Noboa, elected in Ecuador’s presidential run-off election on April 13, was sworn in for the period 2025-2029 at a ceremony held at the National Assembly in the capital Quito.

The 37-year-old president officially began his term of office after receiving the presidential sash in front of parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries late on Saturday evening.

Noboa stressed that the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime would remain a top priority, saying that his government would not slow down its efforts in this direction.

He also insisted on zero tolerance for corruption, and said Ecuador must move forward with unity and determination.

The ceremony was attended by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, US Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. representing President Donald Trump, and high-ranking diplomats from Brazil, Bolivia, Costa Rica and other countries.

At the end of the ceremony, Noboa greeted his supporters gathered in Independence Square.
