The Togolese Ministry of Health has announced two new cases of monkeypox, bringing the total number of infections to three since the first case was confirmed on May 16.
The health authorities are stepping up epidemiological surveillance and early-warning measures, calling on the population to be even more vigilant.
As soon as these new cases appeared, Togolese health authorities immediately isolated them, the first essential barrier to interrupting the transmission chain. They are a man and a woman.
Professor Anoumou Dagnran, head of the response committee, stresses the importance of immediate isolation of detected cases and the central role of hygiene in prevention.
Awareness campaigns have been launched to alert the population to the signs of the highly contagious viral disease: fever, muscle aches, rashes.
The monkeypox virus is transmitted from one individual to another mainly through close contact: sexual intercourse, exchange of bodily fluids, or handling contaminated objects. If left untreated, the disease can lead to serious complications and even death.
In view of the increasing number of cases, the government is calling for vigilance and strict adherence to preventive measures.
