A student arrested with locally made gun

A 16-year-old student at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School has been arrested for possession of a locally manufactured firearm without legal authorization in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

The SHS 2 student was arrested on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command, according to reports.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo.

The arrest followed a routine dormitory search conducted by school authorities around 9:30 a.m. on that day. The student was promptly taken into custody for further investigation.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that the weapon belonged to his stepfather. This led to the stepfather’s arrest on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Both individuals were subsequently granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report to the authorities on Monday, May 19, 2025, for further investigations.
