Chad: Opponent Succes Masra arrested at his home

In Chad, former Prime Minister and opposition politician Succes Masra was arrested at dawn on Friday May 16 at his home, no reason having been given for the arrest, according to reports.

According to the worldwide radio station, the home of Succès Masra, president of the opposition party Les Transformateurs, located in the Gassi district of Ndjamena’s 7th arrondissement, was raided by armed men on Friday May 16.

Succès Masra was alone in his home.

Members of the defense and security forces took him to an as yet unknown destination, his lieutenants told RFI.

Members of his party added that the reason for his abduction had not been communicated to those present at the scene.

After a year and a half in exile, the leader of the Transformers party was appointed Prime Minister by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno in January 2024.

He stepped down a few months later, alternating between criticism of the government and calls to work together.
