An explosion hits a residential area in northern China

An explosion struck a residential area in northern China on Wednesday, marking the second such incident in two days, according to reports.

An explosion followed by a fire rocked a residential area in the Xiaodian district of Taiyuan, capital of the northern province of Shanxi, on Wednesday.

The human toll remains uncertain, according to reports.

This incident comes less than 24 hours after a similar tragedy in the north-east of the country. On Tuesday, a fire in a restaurant in Liaoyang, Liaoning province, left at least 22 people dead and three injured.
