A 27-year-old man has been arrested for killing an elderly woman and inflicting deep cutlass wounds on his father and three others in Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central region, Ghana.
The Kwame Alex community in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region has been left in shock.
According to the Twifo Praso District Police Command, the incident occurred following a dispute between the suspect and his father over wooden sticks.
Accorrding to reports, the suspect became enraged upon discovering that his father had lent his sticks previously placed on a cocoa drying stand to the local Pentecost Church.
The sticks had been used to support a consignment of cement bags to prevent them from hardening.
During a heated confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a cutlass, leaving him with severe injuries. An elderly woman, who attempted to intervene, was also attacked and killed. Three other community members who tried to restrain him sustained deep cutlass wounds and were rushed to hospital alongside his father for treatment.
The community later managed to apprehend him and hand him over to the police.
The Central North Regional Crime Officer, ASP Alex Yirenkyi, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have been launched and urged residents to remain calm as authorities work to ensure justice.
