Built by the Nachtigal Power Company (NHPC) since 2018, the Nachtigal dam will be inaugurated on April 3, 2025.
In a context where energy needs are becoming increasingly pressing, this dam, which has been managing all of its 420 MW in the Southern interconnected grid since March 18, 2025, is strategic for the country.
According to reports, “the Nachtigal hydroelectric project alone accounts for almost 30% of Cameroon’s energy requirements.”
With a total estimated cost of 786 billion FCFA, the Nachtigal dam is the largest power generation plant in sub-Saharan Africa.
