At least 20 terrorists were neutralized in a Nigerian Air Force airstrike targeting fortified camps along the Funtua-Gusau road in Katsina State, the Nigerian Air Force announced.
The operation was carried out after reliable intelligence revealed the presence of a large group of terrorists in the area, explained Kabiru Ali, deputy director of public relations for the Nigerian Air Force.
“The air strikes, carried out as a result of accurate and actionable intelligence, destroyed the fortified camps of notorious gang leaders Gero (Alhaji) and Alhaji Riga, neutralizing more than 20 criminals. Additional casualties were reported in the surrounding rocky hills,” said Ali.
“Riga and Gero were key players in banditry, harboring terrorist elements responsible for incessant ambushes along the Funtua-Gusau road, particularly between the villages of Yankara and Sheme. Their elimination marks a major step forward in the ongoing military campaign to restore peace in the north-west,” he added.
This new development is seen as a major victory in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
The army has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its efforts to eradicate this scourge from the country.
