French soccer legend Thierry Henry has surprised the soccer world by naming FC Barcelona winger Raphinha as the favorite for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Already a scorer in the first leg, Raphinha shone again in Spain, scoring twice to help the Blaugrana to a 3-1 win and a place in the quarter-finals.
Invited by CBS Sport to analyze the match, Thierry Henry praised the 28-year-old’s performances, placing him ahead of stars like Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
Raphinha is leading the race for the Ballon d’Or, said Henry. He was incredible in the Champions League, scoring a lot of goals with just one penalty. The former French international also emphasized the Brazilian player’s intensity and versatility: A complete player is someone who presses, defends and helps his full-back defend. Raphinha has it all.
With 11 Champions League goals already this season and a key role in Barça’s performances under Hansi Flick, Raphinha could well earn a place among the contenders for the prestigious individual trophy.
It remains to be seen whether he can maintain this level of excellence until the end of the season.
