188 churches closed in Cameroon

Almost 188 churches have been closed on the instructions of the Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, sub-prefect of Yaoundé 4, Cameroon.

“Of the 615 religious groups operating in his district, the administrative authority found that all 188 were operating illegally,” according to reports.

From noise pollution to extortion of worshippers and other abuses, there are many reasons why places of worship have been sealed off.

In Cameroon, hundreds of churches have not yet obtained a presidential decree to be operational. Only 47 religious associations are authorized to operate in the country.
