The former captain of the Eperviers du Togo, now a consultant for Euro 2024, has spoken out about Bradley Barcola’s choice to play for the French team at the expense of Togo.
In a TikTok live, Emmanuel Adebayor approves and justifies Barcola’s decision.
“He’s going to play for a team that’s already won the World Cup. Can he win an African Cup of Nations with Togo? No. Can he qualify for a World Cup with Togo right now? I don’t think so. I can’t be disappointed that he’s chosen to play for France. He’s a young brother and I’m happy for him. We also have to be realistic: playing for France will open other doors for him and give him more exposure,” explains the former Togolese striker.
“With France, you don’t have to worry, every time it’s just a short flight, and you can go back to your club afterwards. For us, just to play in Zambia, we had to go to Mozambique and then land in Libya before arriving in Zambia, where you’re already exhausted. Then after that, you have to play the match and do the same thing on the way back. You come back to your club and you can lose your place because of all that,” adds Adebayor, referring to his own experiences.
