11 soldiers killed in an ambush

Eleven (11) Niger soldiers were killed in an ambush near the Algerian border on February 28, 2025, according to reports.

“The Chief of Staff of the Nigerien armed forces, Brigadier General Salaou Barmou, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the army, Colonel Major Maman Sani Kiaou, came to Agadez to attend the funeral of the eleven elements of the defense and security forces who were killed on Friday, while participating in a patrol in the locality of Inanbagarett in the department of Ingall”, reports stated.

According to reports, “other soldiers were wounded.”

The department of Ingall lies close to the Algerian border. No claims have been made for the ambush, which took place at 8pm GMT on Saturday.

This is the second deadly ambush against the Niger army in less than a month. On February 3, a Niger army unit was ambushed in the Téra department near the Burkina Faso border.

According to official figures, at least ten (10) soldiers were killed in the ambush.
