Will Valentine’s Day soon be banned in Nigeria?

As the world prepares to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Thursday February 14, voices are being raised in Nigeria calling for a ban on this festival of Hearts and Beautiful Colors.

Indeed, Bishop Charles Ighele, Superintendent General of the Holy Spirit Mission in Lagos, has called for a ban on Valentine’s Day celebrations, denouncing a holiday that he believes has become a vehicle for immorality.

The clergyman claimed that the day, initially dedicated to humanitarian works, had been hijacked into a celebration of love affairs and sexual desire.

He believes that the influence of the romantic demon Cupid encourages an erroneous vision of love, far removed from biblical principles.

The bishop urged the government and educational and religious institutions to join forces to promote moral values and put an end to a festival he considers harmful to young people.

According to him, a ban would prevent the destruction of social and family values.
