50 bodies found in mass graves in the Libyan desert

According to reports, the first mass grave containing 19 bodies was discovered last Friday on a farm in the town of Kufra, in the south-east of Libya.

According to the charity al-Abreen, which helps migrants in eastern and southern Libya, most were shot dead before being buried.

Another mass grave containing at least 30 bodies was also discovered in a human trafficking center.

Survivors reported that around 70 people had been buried.

For the authorities, the excavation work continues.

Mass graves of migrants are not uncommon in Libya.

In 2024, authorities unearthed the bodies of at least 65 migrants in the Shuayrif region, 350 kilometers south of the capital, Tripoli.

Libya is the main transit point for migrants from Africa and the Middle East trying to reach Europe.
