At least six soldiers were killed and schools and military vehicles set on fire in an attack on the Nigerian army by a suspected Boko Haram terrorist group, according to reports.
The attack took place over the weekend in the local government area of Damboa, in the northeastern state of Borno, reports said.
A witness described the assault as well-coordinated and added that it resembled a revenge mission.
Nigeria faces multiple security challenges in different regions. While the country battles the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, banditry and kidnappings are frequent in the northwest.
According to Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, the country recorded almost 615,000 insecurity related deaths between May 2023 and April 2024
However, the bandit-devastated northwest region recorded the highest figure, with 206,030 victims.
