Ivory Coast: more than 150 clandestine clinics shut down

More than 150 clandestine clinics have been closed for non-compliance following a major operation by the Ivory Coast Department of Private Establishments and Health Professions (DEPPS).

According to RFI, these health centers, deemed dangerous for patients, did not comply with current standards.

The inspection mission carried out by the health authorities revealed serious irregularities, such as the absence of legal authorization, deplorable hygiene conditions and a lack of qualified staff.

According to the authorities, these shortcomings seriously endanger the lives of patients, while tarnishing the reputation of the private health sector in Ivory Coast.

Another health professional denounced obsolete equipment, out-of-date medicines…These are time bombs for patients.

At the same time, 23 other establishments have received formal notices to comply.

This campaign, which last November already led to the closure of around 100 clinics in the Gbôklê and Grands Ponts regions, is part of the ambitious national initiative Zero illegal clinics by 2025.
