Ghana: two miners dead as galamsey pit collapses

Two miners lost their lives when a galamsey pit caved in during the early hours of the day in Kukubi, the Kwaebibrem Municipal District, Ghana.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that the two miners were trapped when the pit they were working in collapsed.

Despite frantic efforts by fellow miners, only the lifeless bodies were recovered.

The first victim was retrieved with the aid of an excavator, but tragically, his lower body was severed in the process.

The second miner’s body was recovered several hours later, following traditional libation rites performed at the site.

The bodies has been transported to the mortuary by the police as investigations continue.

The incident highlights the persistent dangers associated with illegal mining activities, which continue to claim lives in the region.
