DRC: 9 civilians killed in ADF rebel attack

Nine (9) civilians have been killed by rebels in the province of North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to reports.

According to reports, members of the rebel group Forces de l’Alliance Démocratique (ADF) carried out an armed attack on the village of PK20 on the Mbau-Kamango road in North Kivu.

According to reports, 9 civilians were killed in the attack, while many others were abducted.

Rebel groups operating in the region frequently kidnap people and demand ransoms.

The army has launched an operation against members of the ADF in the region, the reports added.

The ADF, which began operating in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the late 1990s, was formed by bringing together former members of movements such as the Uganda National Liberation Army (NALU), the Uganda Muslim Liberation Army and the Tablighi Jamaat.

Thousands of civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced in ADF attacks since 2014.
