A 22-year-old Italian midfielder collapsed on the pitch in the 17ᵉ minute after complaining of discomfort at Florence’s Stadio Artemio-Franchi, Italy.
The incident occurred during the match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
Quickly attended to by his team-mates and opposing players, including Danilo Cataldi who gave him first aid, Edoardo Bove was rushed to Careggi hospital.
Placed in intensive care, the player regained consciousness shortly after arrival. Initial tests have ruled out serious damage, but he remains under observation.
Fiorentina praised the quick response of the emergency services and thanked the many messages of support received from clubs, players and fans throughout Italy.
The players formed a protective circle around Bove, while some, in tears, struggled to contain their shock.
The match was definitively abandoned and postponed to a later date. This tragic incident brought back painful memories for Florence, which has been marked by other sporting tragedies.
