Algeria: thousands of Malian refugees expelled

Many Malian refugees have been brutally expelled into the desert, leaving children crying in distress in Algeria, according to some reports.

The expelled Tuaregs, who had taken refuge in camps at Tin Zaouatine on the Algerian border, are now left to fend for themselves in the desert after fleeing terrorist violence in northern Mali.

According to reports, these mass expulsions took place at the Tinzaouatène border, a region already marked by conflicts between the Malian army and armed groups.

This situation is causing great concern among the international community and NGOs. It should be noted that this operation targeted a particular group of refugees, and that not all Touareg refugees in Algeria would be affected.

Among those expelled are many vulnerable people, facing extremely precarious living conditions. This situation calls for urgent intervention by the transitional authorities in Mali to assist these people.

To date, there has been no reaction from the military authorities or the Algerian embassy in Mali.
