Nigeria: 94 people die in tanker explosion

In the northern Nigerian state of Jigawa, 94 people were killed and 50 injured when a tanker carrying fuel oil exploded.

Jigawa State Police spokesman Lawan Adamu, said an explosion occurred in a tanker carrying fuel oil on the Kano-Hadeja highway in Jigawa, for unknown reasons.

At least 50 people were also injured in the explosion, which occurred in the state of Jigawa.

“94 people lost their lives and at least 50 were injured in the explosion,” Adamu reported.

Noting that the injured had been treated, the official expressed concern that the death toll would rise.

The authorities said fire crews had been sent to the area and an investigation into the incident had been launched.
