The X social network is back in Brazil after a forty-day suspension, following a lengthy tug-of-war between its owner, Elon Musk, and Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes.
The latter had ordered the suspension on August 30.
The American billionaire finally complied with Brazilian law and paid a fine of 28 million reais (around 5 million euros).
With 22 million users, Brazilians are particularly attached to this social network.
The lifting of the suspension was decided by the Supreme Court judge on Tuesday evening.
To become available again in Latin America’s largest country, X had to delete accounts suspected of misinformation, most of which were supporters of far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).
The former Twitter was also forced to pay fines totaling 28.6 million reais (around 4.8 million euros) and appoint a new legal representative in Brazil.
It should be noted that this return has been greeted with enthusiasm by users, with keywords such as Voltamos (We’re back) and Como é bom estar de volta (It’s so good to be back) among the Trending Topics.
