Spanish soccer legend Andrés Iniesta, 40, announced on October 7, 2024 that he was calling time on his career after more than twenty years at the highest level.
Regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time, Iniesta’s simple yet fearsomely effective style of play has long been a mainstay of Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Trained at La Masia, he played alongside some of the biggest names in soccer at the Catalan club before leaving in 2018.
Iniesta is also a La Roja icon, with 131 caps to his name. During his career, he has won numerous European and world titles, both with his club and with the national team.
Andrés Iniesta added to his honours list with the national team by winning the World Cup in 2010 and the Euro in 2008, making him one of the most successful players in soccer history.
Renowned for his many magnificent goals, often scored with curling shots, his speciality, it was above all his decisive goal in the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands (1-0) that left a lasting impression.
A mainstay of La Roja and Barça for many years, Iniesta continued his brilliant career with Emirates Cultural Sport Club. He officially announced his retirement via a video posted on his social networks, notably Instagram.
