Nigeria: man arrested for stabbing newlywed wife to death

A 30-year-old man has been arrested by Lagos State police for stabbing his young wife to death during an altercation at their home in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, “the suspect allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife multiple times before locking her in the room and setting it on fire”.

The suspect then inflicted wounds on himself after the gruesome act.

The police were alerted by a distress call and rushed to the scene, where they managed to extinguish the fire.

“The lifeless body of the victim was found with multiple stab wounds inside the room,” reports said.

The suspect was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, treated for his injuries, and later discharged into police custody.

SP Hundeyin revealed that the preliminary investigation confirmed that the suspect stabbed his wife during a heated argument.

The victim’s body has since been taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for an autopsy, while further investigations are ongoing.
