At least 129 people were killed and 59 injured in an attempted prison break in the Democratic Republic of Congo, an official said.
“The incident happened in the country’s largest prison, Makala, in the capital Kinshasa,” Interior Minister Shabani Lukoo said.
“The provisional death toll is 129, 24 of whom were shot, after warning, the other victims having died from jostling or suffocation.”
“There are also 59 injured who are being cared for by the government,” added Lukoo on X.
