Malian President to visit China

Assimi Goïta, Mali’s transitional president, is planning to travel to the People’s Republic of China soon to take part in an event after visiting Russia.

Assimi Goïta’s will be going to the Land of the Rising Sun to represent the Malian delegation taking part in a Forum.

The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is scheduled to take place in Xi Jinping’s country from September 4 to 6, 2024 between African countries and China.

During these three days, Assimi Goïta and the entire Malian delegation will be discussing possible economic cooperation with partners.

Mali’s leaders will no doubt be looking for strategic partnerships in the fields of security and development.

According to many observers, the choice of China as the non-African country to which Assimi Goïta is visiting after Russia is an act to underline the importance the Malian president attaches to diplomatic relations with China.

Having voluntarily cut ties with France, Mali’s leaders are now redirecting their cooperation towards countries “that most respect their sovereignty”, in the words of the country’s head of diplomacy, Abdoulaye Diop.
