Ghana: temporary suspension of cereal exports

Ghana has issued a temporary ban on grain exports to ensure domestic supplies, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

“Ghana is facing a less rainy season, which has disrupted agricultural production,” reports said.

The affected regions account for around 62% of Ghana’s annual grain supply, raising concerns about a nationwide food shortage, the Ministry of Agriculture was quoted by the same media outlet as saying.

The export ban has been implemented with immediate effect and will remain in place until the situation normalizes.

The Ministry will make up the shortfall with grain reserves from the West African political and economic bloc ECOWAS, grain imports and private sector partnerships, reports said.
