Burkina-Faso: 14 soldiers killed in terrorist attack

At least 14 brave gnedarmes were killed in a terrorist attack in Burkina faso, some ten kilometers from the town of Tougan, on August 15.

Burkina Faso is once again in mourning following the tragic loss.

The unit, which had just completed its mission in the northern commune of Toéni, was on its way home when it fell into an ambush described by security authorities as “complex”.

The attack left at least 14 gendarmes dead and around 15 wounded, who were immediately evacuated.

The attackers set fire to armored vehicles and motorcycles, and succeeded in seizing weapons and vehicles.

In response, Burkinabe forces neutralized several of the assailants, according to security sources.

The Groupe d’Action Rapide de Surveillance et d’Intervention (GARSI), trained and equipped by the European Union since 2019, is tasked with fighting terrorism and organized crime in border areas.

Deployed in the communes of Barani and Toéni, near the Malian border, these gendarmes had so far succeeded in containing threats in the region, demonstrating their effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
