The Ukrainian embassy in Mexico on Wednesday, August 8, asked the Mexican government to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), if he attends the inauguration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“We trust the Mexican government to respect the international arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin and deliver him to the United Nations judicial body in The Hague,” it said in a statement.
The Ukrainian embassy in Mexico called the Russian president a “war criminal” who will face justice for the invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022.
However, it thanked the Mexican government for inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration ceremony on October 1.
