Former BBC star Huw Edwards pleads guilty to making child pornography images on Wednesday, July 31, during a preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London.
This decision allows him to avoid a trial.
A star presenter of the 10pm news in the United Kingdom, the 61-year-old journalist, who announced the death of the Queen to the world last October, was suspended in July 2023 by the BBC.
According to Skynews, dozens of compromising photographs had been found on the WhatsApp account of the 62-year-old man, some of which were classified as “A” – the images considered the most serious, having been able to involve very young children, according to the British media.
A leading figure at the BBC
Born in 1961 in Bridgend, South Wales, Huw Edwards joined BBC News in 1984 as a trainee before being hired as the BBC’s chief political correspondent in Westminster.
With his confidence and professionalism, the journalist quickly became a regular face on the British broadcaster and in 1999 was offered a job as presenter of the 6pm news on BBC One, one of the most watched television news bulletins in the UK at the time.
Four years later, Huw Edwards was promoted to the 10pm news, the BBC’s flagship newscast, where he covered many key moments in the history of the United Kingdom since the early 2000s.
Huw Edwards notably commented on the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011, followed by nearly 20 million viewers on the BBC, a programme for which the journalist and his team won a BAFTA Award for the best coverage of a live event.
