A 23-year-old man has been brought before a magistrates’ court for murder during a fight over an apple in Chegutu, Zimbabwe.
“The altercation began over an apple the suspect forcibly took from the victim, which had been given to him by a relative,” according to reports.
The victim wanted the apple for himself, leading to the confrontation as the suspect resisted, simply wanting to enjoy his apple.
The suspect assaulted the victim repeatedly on the head, nose, and mouth, using his own head during the attack.
He then stabbed him with a knife behind his left ear.
The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a District Hospital. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended two days later.
The suspect, who had his initial hearing in the Chegutu Magistrate’s Court, has been remanded in custody until August 2, 2024, pending further legal proceedings.
The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe has urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
