Russia and Ukraine announce new exchange of war prisoners

Russia and Ukraine announced this Wednesday, July 17, a new exchange of prisoners of war, each side releasing 95 soldiers, less than a month after a previous exchange.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the release of 95 people serving in the army, national guard and border guards.

“No matter the difficulties, we are looking for all those who are in captivity. We have the duty to bring everyone back,” he wrote on his Telegram account, specifying that the exchange had been made possible by mediation by the United Arab Emirates, like last time.

He also published photos of the released soldiers, wrapped in Ukrainian flags, and all of whom had shaved heads.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported the exchange. Russian human rights ombudsman Tatiana Moskalkova released a video of her office welcoming the freed Russian soldiers.
