Wiz Khalifa arrested in Romania

Legendary rapper Wiz Khalifa has been apprehended by police following his recent performance at the Beach, Please festival in Romania, the Romanian public prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Early on Sunday, Khalifa, who was the main attraction at the festival in Costinesti, a village on the Black Sea coast, was arrested.

He openly consumed cannabis on stage during his performance, which led to his arrest by the Romanian authorities.

In Romania, cannabis is classified as a “high-risk drug”, and possession can carry a prison sentence of up to ten years.

The organized crime prosecutor’s office (DIICOT) issued a statement detailing the incident.

They reported that Wiz Khalifa had been found with over 18 grams of cannabis, and that he had smoked another quantity on stage in the form of a homemade cigarette.

The artist’s arrest in Romania underlines the striking contrast in laws and constraints in different parts of the world.
