Several inmates escape from prison with weapons

In Niger, a large number of prisoners managed to escape with weapons from the Koutoukalé high-security prison on Thursday, July 11.

According to reports, more than 200 terrorists are locked up in this prison, located a stone’s throw from the capital Niamey.

In the meantime, Nigerien security forces have set out in pursuit of the escapees.

The escape occurred in the middle of the day. The guards were alerted by gunfire and bangs inside the prison.

Many of them managed to get through the armored gates, barbed wire and vast trenches surrounding the Koutoukalé prison, before vanishing into thin air with large quantities of weapons and vehicles as their booty.

For the time being, however, it is not known how many prisoners were able to escape, or their identities.

Several hundred terrorists, as well as criminals and drug traffickers, were held in this prison.
