Palestine calls on FIFA to suspend Israel

The Palestinian Football Federation (PFA) demanded the “immediate” suspension of Israel from FIFA due to the war in Gaza, Friday May 17.

“The ball is in your court,” said its leader Jibril Rajoub to Gianni Infantino, president of the governing body of world football, whose 74th congress is being held in Bangkok (Thailand).

Fifa refused to organize a vote on the issue during this congress. But Gianni Infantino has promised a decision by July 20.

The Swiss-Italian leader said he had commissioned “an independent legal expertise”, the conclusions of which will be read to the Fifa Council. This will meet in an extraordinary manner by the date indicated given the “urgency” of the situation.

A few minutes earlier, Jibril Rajoub had urged Fifa to “stand on the right side of history” by voting for the immediate suspension of Israel and referring several of its members to the disciplinary commission.
