South Africa declared a state of national disaster on Monday evening after floods caused by heavy rains in recent days, which have already left 7 people dead and missing, according to disaster management centers in several provinces.
“The government has declared a state of national disaster to allow for a sustained and coordinated response to the impact of the floods,” the presidency said in a statement.
A national report has not yet been communicated.
But bad weather threatens 7 out of the 9 provinces in the country, mainly on the east coast, open to the Indian Ocean.
