Children in critical condition after mother’s lover sets room on fire

A jealous lover has allegedly set fire to the room of his girlfriend at Axim in the Western Region, Ghana, according to reports.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, while the lady’s children were asleep in the room.

The two children, identified as 16-year-old and 3-year-old sustained severe burns in the attack.

According to reports, “the suspect committed the act after his girlfriend asked for a breakup.”

Eyewitnesses accused the man of setting the room ablaze with the intent to kill the children. However, they were rescued due to the swift intervention of neighbors, who called firefighters and the police.

The victims are currently battling for their lives at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Residents say the suspect fled after setting the room on fire, but his clothes and a gallon, believed to have contained fuel, were found at the scene.

They have called on the police to arrest the suspect and ensure he faces the full rigors of the law.
