Madagascar: a landslide kills 16 people on board a boat

A landslide killed 16 people on board a boat on Wednesday morning in the Menabe region of western Madagascar.

The boat, carrying 26 passengers, was anchored on the Tsiribihina River when a landslide occurred nearby, killing 16 people instantly.

The other 10 passengers were rescued and are unharmed, according to the Agence Portuaire, Maritime et Fluviale (APMF).

The port infrastructure was also affected by the landslide, according to the same source.

The boat was providing a river link between the towns of Belo sur Tsiribihina and Ankalalaobe in the Menabe region.
