Two killed, many injured in builing collapse

Three construction workers perish in the collapse of a building

Three workers perished after a building they were working on collapsed in Asempa Down, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East municipality of Ghana’s Central Region.

“A carpenter and two other workers were trapped under the debris from the collapse,” a survivor reported.

The collapse occurred as the workers were pouring concrete for the first floor of the multi-storey building.

The carpenter was killed instantly, while the other two succumbed to their injuries during evacuation to the hospital.

“I noticed that the building was gradually collapsing while standing near the matching so I pushed one of my brothers closer to me to the side and also managed to jump,” a survivor recounted.

“I noticed that the building was not strong from the foundation, so I prompted the boys to work on the building with a weak foundation. Passers-by helped us to remove the people from the rubble”, the survivor added.
