At least 30 people have died in floods caused by heavy rains in Jigawa state, northern Nigeria, according to reports.
The information was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by Haruna Mairiga, Secretary General of the Nigerian Emergency Agency.
According to the same source, 4,699 houses were flooded and 9,379 hectares of farmland damaged as a result of the floods.
The spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (Nema), Ezekiel Manzo, announced that 227,494 people had been affected by flooding caused by heavy rains across the country’s 27 states.
The Nigerian Ministry of Water had warned of heavy rains and flooding in some parts of the country.
