Man devoured by 40 crocodiles after falling into an enclosure

A Cambodian man was devoured on Friday by around 40 farmed crocodiles after falling into their enclosure, police said.

The 72-year-old man was trying to get a crocodile out of its cage when the reptile pulled him inside after grabbing his stick. The crocodiles then attacked him and tore his body to pieces.

“While chasing a crocodile from a cage dedicated to egg laying, the crocodile went after his stick, knocking the man into the enclosure,” said Mey Savry, Siem Riep’s police chief (north-west).

“Other crocodiles then pounced on him until he died,” he said, adding that remains of his body were found covered in bite marks.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred.

“In 2019, a two-year-old girl was eaten by several crocodiles from a reptile farm, also located in Siem Reap,” Mey Savry added.
