United States to ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy

The South Carolina state Senate in the eastern United States on Tuesday passed a law banning most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

“I look forward to signing this text to make it a law as quickly as possible”, rejoiced Henry McMaster on Twitter, judging that his state would thus protect “more innocent lives”.

It remains to be seen whether the measure will survive the appeals once enacted, the Supreme Court of South Carolina having invalidated a similar law at the beginning of the year.

The text voted on Tuesday includes exceptions in the event of danger to the life and health of the woman and rape or incest, up to 12 weeks. Doctors who fail to comply with the law risk two years in prison and a heavy fine.

However, several associations are against this law.

“It drastically limits the right to abortion. Because after six weeks, many women do not yet know that they are pregnant,” they alerted.
