Ghana: man drowns in river while chasing grasscutter

A 40-year-old man drowned in the Oda River while chasing a grascutter at Chiransa, in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Ghana.

“Three hunters went to hunt for grasscutter in the bush before the incident,” according to the Unit Committee Chairman of the area, Benjamin Amponsah.

They saw a grasshopper but unfortunately it threw itself into the Oda River, forcing the deceased to also throw himself into the river.

“Unfortunately he got drowned in it,” he narrated.

All attempts by his friends to rescue him proved futile, they rushed home to inform the Unit Committee Chairman who mobilized some community members to the scene.

“The people who went to the bank of the river also couldn’t rescue the drowning man,” according to reports.

The matter was reported to the police where the body was retrieved.

The deceased left behind a wife and three children.
