Woman sentenced to 10 years in prison for human trafficking

The Federal High Court in Lagos State, Nigeria has sentenced a mother of five to 10 years in prison for human trafficking and promoting prostitution.

The convict was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, when she returned from Libya.

She was accused of buying the victim for 300, 000 Libyan dinars from a Cameroonian (said to be at large), for the purpose of subjecting her to exploitation and prostitution.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge against her as the prosecution opened its case, called witnesses and presented several exhibits.

The judge sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment on each of the two counts.
