Ethiopia: UN heartbreaking announcement on the Tigray crisis

The UN announced the suspension of its efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the beleaguered Tigray region of northern Ethiopia as fresh fighting erupted last week.

Fighting between federal troops and rebel groups continues in Ethiopia despite international calls for a truce. The renewed violence – currently concentrated in neighbouring Amhara region – is worsening the crisis.

The UN says that aid delivery by road transport into Tigray has not been done since last week.

Flights transporting aid workers have also been suspended and operational cash is not being delivered.

“However, aid that had already been delivered is being distributed,” it said.
