Massimo Coppola, mayor of the city of Sorrento, in southern Italy, announced that tourists in swimsuits or shirtless will no longer be able to wander the streets this summer.
In the Bay of Naples, tourists are welcome… but once they leave the beach, they will have to put on a t-shirt and get dressed before discovering the region.
This was decided by the mayor of Sorrento, Massimo Coppola. The town councilor of the seaside resort, which attracts many tourists every year, can no longer see them walking through the streets shirtless or in swimsuits.
“These indecent behaviors can cause embarrassment and discomfort among the resident population and visitors. This can give a negative image of the quality of life in Sorrento, with significant repercussions on its reputation and its tourism”, justifies Massimo Coppola.
“We want to improve and protect the quality of life inside the city center,” adds the city councilor.
Tourists who do not respect this rule may therefore be fined by the police and fined from 25 to 500 euros.
