Kenya: condoms and mosquito nets stolen and sold on the black market

The UN’s Global Fund said hundreds of thousands of condoms, mosquito nets and tuberculosis drugs have disappeared from a warehouse run by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

The UN Global Fund to Fight HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria has accused KEMSA of stealing drugs. It said they were resold on the black market and to private pharmacies.

It also accuses the Kenyan medical agency of drastically inflating the price of drugs.

“Some drugs are sold for a hundred times the correct price,” it said.

The government agency has not yet commented on the allegations.

The UN Global Fund has recommended further investigation of Kemsa over the lost medicines
